ThreadDesk for Claude

Connect Claude to your workspace and ask about your inbox, customers, tickets and performance.

Connect ThreadDesk to Claude and ask about your business in plain language: who is waiting for a reply, what a customer said last week, which tickets are about to breach their SLA, how your team did today. Claude reads your ThreadDesk workspace and answers — no dashboard, no filters, no exports.

This guide is for whoever runs the business. There is nothing to code. Using ChatGPT? See ThreadDesk for ChatGPT — same connection, same permissions.

Before you start

  • A ThreadDesk account in a workspace with an active plan. ThreadDesk for Claude is included on every plan.
  • A Claude account at claude.ai. It works the same in Claude on the web, the desktop app and the mobile app.

Connect Claude

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.

  2. Name it ThreadDesk and paste this URL:

    https://api.threaddesk.io/mcp
  3. Press Connect. Claude opens a ThreadDesk sign-in window — sign in with your email code as usual.

  4. Choose the workspace to connect, check the permissions, and press Allow access.

You are back in Claude, connected. The same URL is shown, with a copy button, in ThreadDesk under Settings → Connected AI apps.

Several workspaces?

If your email belongs to more than one ThreadDesk workspace, the sign-in screen lists them all and you pick one. To use a second workspace from Claude, add the connector a second time and pick the other one.

Claude Code

Developers using Claude Code can add the same server from a terminal:

cURL
claude mcp add --transport http threaddesk https://api.threaddesk.io/mcp

Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and choose threaddesk to sign in.

Things to ask

  • "What needs a reply right now? Start with whoever has waited longest."
  • "Summarise my conversation with Sana and tell me if her order issue was solved."
  • "Which tickets are breaching or about to breach their SLA?"
  • "How did the team do this week compared with last week?"
  • "Has 0300 1234567 ordered from us before? What did they buy?"
  • "Reply to Sana that her replacement ships tomorrow."
  • "Hamza asked about the black abaya two days ago — send him the order_update template."
  • "Assign the conversation with Bilal's customer to Ayesha and tag the contact VIP."
  • "Reply to ticket 1042 that the refund is processed, and mark it resolved."

Claude also offers two ready-made prompts in its prompt menu: Daily briefing and Look up a customer.

What Claude can and can't do

It can read:

PermissionWhat it covers
Conversations and messagesYour WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram inbox
ContactsNames, numbers, emails, tags, custom fields and notes
Support ticketsEmail tickets, their messages and SLA deadlines
Message templatesYour WhatsApp templates and their approval status
Performance reportsVolume, first-response time, resolution rate, bot share, per agent
Store ordersOrders from a connected Shopify or WooCommerce store

It can act for you — only if you allow it:

PermissionWhat it covers
Send messagesReply to a customer, or send one approved WhatsApp template to one contact
Manage conversationsAssign, resolve and reopen conversations
Manage ticketsReply to a ticket by email, add a private note, change status, priority or assignee
Update contactsName, email, custom fields, notes and tags

Connecting asks only for the read permissions. The first time you ask Claude to do something, it shows a second ThreadDesk screen asking for that permission, and you choose. You can untick any permission on either screen.

Claude asks you before every action. Each message it sends and each change it makes needs your confirmation in Claude first. A reply it sends shows in the inbox under your name, just as if you had typed it there.

One customer at a time. Claude cannot message a list of people. Claude and ChatGPT together can send at most 30 messages an hour per workspace, refuses contacts who have unsubscribed, and can only send a template to someone who is already a contact. To message many customers, use Broadcasts.

WhatsApp's 24-hour rule still applies. A normal reply works only within 24 hours of the customer's last message; after that Claude offers an approved template instead. Replying from Claude pauses the bot in that conversation, exactly as replying from the inbox does.

It can't delete anything, change settings, or change whether a contact is subscribed.

It only sees and does what your role allows. Claude acts as you, with your ThreadDesk role. An agent whose role only shows their own conversations gets exactly those through Claude — and if your role cannot send templates or open reports in ThreadDesk, Claude cannot either.

Your data

When you ask Claude a question, ThreadDesk sends Claude the conversations, customer details or figures needed to answer it, and nothing else. That information is then handled by Anthropic under your Claude account's terms. ThreadDesk does not read your Claude chats.

Every connection is listed in Settings → Connected AI apps, with who connected it and when it was last used.

Disconnect

Go to Settings → Connected AI apps in ThreadDesk and press Disconnect. Claude loses access on its very next request. Owners and admins see every connection in the workspace and can disconnect any of them; everyone else sees their own.

You can also remove the connector from Claude's Settings → Connectors.

Troubleshooting

"This workspace does not have an active subscription." ThreadDesk for Claude stops while a workspace is unpaid or suspended, and starts again by itself once the plan is active — no need to reconnect.

"Your ThreadDesk role does not allow this." Ask a workspace admin to change your role in Settings → Teams → Roles.

Claude keeps asking for a permission. You unticked it on the ThreadDesk screen. Allow it the next time Claude asks, or tell Claude not to do that kind of action.

"AI apps can send at most 30 messages per hour." The hourly limit protects your WhatsApp number's quality rating. Wait for the time shown, or use Broadcasts for larger sends.

Times look wrong. Claude shows times in your workspace's timezone. If that timezone is wrong, email support and we'll correct it.
